Abstract
The purpose of this study is to understand the inherent meaning of temporary reemployment after retirement that the baby boomer cohort experiences. The baby boomer cohort is high in educational achievement and income when compared with other existing elderly groups. However, the baby boomer cohort tends to have a large amount of expenditure or debt. They also attribute various meanings other than economic circumstances when it comes to assessing the quality of their lives. Therefore, reemployment after retirement can have a significant impact on their lives in old age. Participants of this study were selected by a purposive sampling of two males and four females.
They were individuals that had retired from stable workplaces and had reemployment experience in the city of Gwangju and in Jeollanam-do.
Data were collected based on an in-depth interview. A phenomenological approach introduced by Colaizzi was used for a qualitative data analysis. As a result, four main themes that include ¡®Striving for the family with pride in one¡¯s work¡¯, ¡®Acceptance as a valuable member of society¡¯, ¡®Continued learning to lead a more productive life¡¯, and ¡®Reemployment challenge is one's second life¡¯ were revealed. Based on these results, the implications of various social welfare policies and practices were discussed.
